About

Oh My Gotto is a series of memes, including animations, in which Momoi, Aris or other characters from the video game Blue Archive say, "Oh my gotto, it's X," meaning, "Oh my god, it's X," with "X" being a given subject, then dance and sing a song related to the subject. The exploitable meme, which uses AI to achieve the voices of the characters, was popularized on TikTok in March 2024 and spread to YouTube over the following months, becoming notably popularized on both sites.

Origin

On February 1st, 2024, TikToker[1] @dripkiddoofficial posted a video in which a chibi version of Aris from the game Blue Archive says in Japanese, "Oh my god, it's Korn," while looking at an image of a piece of corn, then starts singing Korn's song "Freak On a Leash," garnering over 3.2 milliong views in four months (shown below, left). Notably, this meme does not use the "oh my gotto" phrasing but is the earliest known example of the meme format.

The TikToker continued to post videos like this over the following weeks, with several examples going notably viral. On March 28th, the TikToker[2] posted a version with Momoi from Blue Archive that garnered over 9.4 million views in three months (shown below, right).

On April 10th, 2024, TikToker[3] @cheesewizrad posted a version of the meme referencing the LeBron James 'You Are My Sunshine' memes, using an alternative opening vocal line where Momoi pronounces "oh my god" as "oh my gotto," garnering over 3.6 million views in two months (shown below). This is the earliest version of the meme to use the specific "oh my gotto" pronunciation.

Spread

The meme became notably popularized between April and June 2024 on both TikTok and YouTube. On April 11th, 2024, YouTuber[4] Jame ButGame posted a version of the meme referencing Kamen Rider, garnering over 300,000 views in two months (shown below, left). On April 18th, YouTuber[5] Frisian uploaded a version that gained over 369,000 views in the same span of time (shown below, right).

On May 18th, TikToker[6] @cheesewizrad posted a version of the meme referencing the Drake diss track "Not Like Us," garnering over 8 million views in a month (shown below).
