About
Oh Don't Switch Now is a viral meme rap freestyle on TikTok from white rapper CRACK. The initial lyrics are "Yeah I'm Rich Now, And I Might Up the Switch Now, Oh Don't Switch Now." The original video was posted to his TikTok account @iamcrack19 in mid-June 2024. Thereafter, others on the app used the TikTok sound for their content, predominantly making fun of the arguably bad (but also slightly good) freestyle that was funny because of how "white" CRACK sounded.
Origin
On June 15th, 2024, TikToker[1] @iamcrack19 (aka CRACK) posted a video in which he's freestyling and riffing on the slang term "switch" (meaning a "Glock switch" or "giggle switch," a device attached to the rear of the slide that turns the semi-automatic handgun into an automatic one), rapping, "Yeah, I'm rich now / And I might up the switch now / Oh, don't switch now." The caption notably uses a misspelling of "rapper" as "r*per." Over six days, the video received roughly 6.8 million plays and 988,600 likes (shown below).
Spread
Other TikTokers used the video's TikTok sound[2] for their content thereafter. For instance, on June 15th, 2024, TikToker[3] @jamarivil used the sound, writing in text overlay, "when yo white mans start freestyling but he lowkey goin crazy," gaining over 1.5 million plays and 310,000 likes in six days (shown below, left).
On June 17th, TikToker[4] @gass1kk posted a video with a POV caption about the subject's "white homeboy" freestyling to save them from a hostage situation, receiving over 579,400 plays and 129,600 likes in four days (shown below, right).
On June 18th, 2024, TikToker[5] @iamcrack19 posted a video that announced the official release of the "Oh Don't Switch Now" track, gaining over 1.3 million plays and 191,100 likes in three days (shown below).
