Oh Boy! My Favorite Seat! refers to a clip of Disney's Mickey Mouse walking into a theatre and sitting in his favorite seat only to have his view blocked by the large back of Fantasia demon Chernabog. Mickey taps Chernabog's back and he stares at Mickey scornfully, resulting in Mickey screaming in fear as his face stretches. The scene comes from the 1991 made-for-TV special "The Best of Disney: 50 Years of Magic" and became a popular exploitable in late 2021.
Origin
On May 20th, 1991, the TV special "The Best of Disney: 50 Years of Magic" aired in the United States.[1] The special features clips from past Disney films and projects as well as facts and behind-the-scenes information about each, mixed with original animations. On December 19th, 2007, YouTuber[2] yensidtun posted a clip of the intro scene from the special where Mickey Mouse finds his favorite theatre seat, saying "Oh boy! My favorite seat!" He sits and his view is obstructed by a large figure in front of him. Mickey taps the figure's soldier and it turns, revealing itself to be Chernabog, a villain from the 1940s Disney film Fantasia. Mickey screams in terror as his face distorts (shown below).
Spread
In late 2021 the clip started to become the subject of edits that replace various aspects of it. An early edit was uploaded to TikTok[3] on October 16th replacing Mickey's scream. One of the earliest edits on YouTube was posted by YouTuber Puppyk99 on November 1st, 2021, replacing Mickey's scream with a Flightreacts scream, but did not go significantly viral (shown below).
The clip increased in popularity over the course of the following months, inspiring edits where Mickey screams in reaction to something disturbing on a theatre screen, removing Chernabog entirely. On December 9th, YouTubers Arcade Assassin and xX_peternity_Xx posted versions of the meme like this, gaining over 316,000 and 472,000 views respectively in a day (shown below, left and right).
The video has also been recreated and reanimated a number of times, often depicting it in a new, more absurd animation style (examples shown below, left and right).[4][5]
On December 10th, Lessons In Meme Culture posted a video about the meme, gaining over 126,000 views in under a day (shown below).
