Now Draw Her Giving Birth is a snowclone that parodies artistic requests to draw a certain character in a way that it meets the requesting party's fetish. Inspired by the viral "You should draw her giving birth" Miiverse comment and an image macro of Super Sonic, Now Draw Her X snowclone format gained popularity on iFunny in October 2020, later spreading to other websites.

Origin

On June 5th, 2015, Tumblr^[1] and Twitter^[2] account BadMiiversePosts posted a screenshot of a Squid Sisters drawing by Miiverse user michi, with two comments by user Roger included in the screenshot. In the comments, Roger provides a positive comment on the drawing and then requests the character Marie to be drawn giving birth. The screenshot (shown below) gained over 3,900 likes and reblogs on Tumblr and 910 retweets and 1,700 likes on Twitter.

In the following years, the screenshot was actively circulated online. Prior to April 2020, occasional memes parodying and ridiculing users who make request to draw a character in a way to satisfy their fetish were made. For example, on September 2nd, 2018, Redditor^[3] OliviaMiaa posted one such post in /r/Animemes, gaining over 9,500 upvotes in six months (shown below, left). In November 2019, a This Is Where I Watched My Parents Die, Raphael meme captioned "Can you draw them farting" went viral^[4]^[5] (shown below, right).

On April 14nd, 2020, artist @danisartwork tweeted^[6] a semi-finished drawing of Shadow the Hedgehog. On April 15th, Twitter^[7] user @bladerunna42069 responded with an image macro of Shadow captioned "Nice Drawing". On the same day, Twitter^[8] user @Godboi16 responded with an image macro of Super Shadow captioned "Now draw her giving birth," gaining 6 retweets and over 510 likes (tweet and image shown below).

In the following months, the image was widely circulated online with reposts on Instagram,^[9]^[10] iFunny^[11]^[12] and other sites. Between May 2020 and early October 2020, the image inspired a limited number similar memes (example^[13] shown below, left). Starting in early October 2020, posts using the snowclone started gaining popularity on iFunny; for example, on October 1st, iFunny^[14] user whole_nigga posted a Batman meme that gained over 590 smiles in two months (shown below, center). On October 6th, iFunny^[15] user Choccy_Milk posted a meme that gained over 260 smiles in the same period (shown below, right).

The meme achieved virality when on October 18th, 2020, iFunny^[16] user Jargo posted a Dragon Ball meme based on an image of Vegeta, captioned "Now draw her giving birth," with the post gaining over 720 smiles. Following the post (shown below, left), captioning images of Dragon Ball characters with the snowclone-based phrases became a trend on iFunny; for example, on October 24th, 2020, iFunny^[17] user Super_Saiyan_2_Hitlr posted a meme that gained over 830 smiles in one month (shown below, center). On November 7th, iFunny^[18] user an_E_Pat posted a Hydration meme that gained over 1,900 smiles in one month (shown below, right).

An_E_Pat's post spawned a sub-trend of wholesome and post-ironic use of the snowclone. For example, on November 8th, 2020, iFunny^[19] user Movieguy78 posted a Wonder Bread version of the meme that gained over 2,000 smiles in one month. Starting in mid-November 2020, the snowclone format received furthers on other platforms through reposts and original content.
