About

The "Notti Bop" Dance or Notti Boppin' is a dance popularized on TikTok set to the diss track "Notti Bop" by Kyle Richh where the dancer mocks punching themself in the ribs rhythmically as the lyrics, "Notti Boppin, punchin' my hips" play. When done in a group, the other members of the group often also mock punching the dancer in the ribs as they fall to the ground. The song, which references the death by stabbing of 14-year-old drill rapper Notti Osama, was previewed by Richh in October 2022 in a video where he also does the dance for the first time. The dance, which mocks the way Notti died, spread over the course of October, with TikTokers often doing it with authority figures who are unaware of its context.

Origin

On October 3rd, 2022, rapper Kyle Richh uploaded a video previewing his upcoming song "Notti Bop" to TikTok,[1] teasing a Friday release date, garnering over 790,000 views in a week (shown below). In the video he dances to the song with other rappers, at one point mock punching his own hips as the lyrics, ""Notti Boppin, punchin' my hips," plays. The song begins with a sample of The Backyardigans song "Castaways".

The full song was released on October 8th on YouTube[2] along with a music video, garnering over 1.1 million views in four days (shown below). According to Genius,[3] the song is a diss track about the death of 14-year-old rapper Notti Osama, who was fatally stabbed in July.[4] The lyrics "punching my hips" are allegedly a reference to the way Osama died by stabbing, the dance move meant to mimick a stabbing motion.
