Nothing Beats A Ground Pound is a catchphrase in the Watson Amelia fandom after a moment from her stream of Super Mario Odyssey in which she reads Cappy's dialogue, "Nothing beats a ground pound," and she jokes, "You know that's actually what I did to your mom last night!" Various images of the VTuber Watson Amelia are also used as exploitables photoshopped into imagery as references to the phrase.

Origin

On September 28th, 2020, VTuber Watson Amelia streamed Super Mario Odyssey. Between levels, Cappy tells Mario about the ground pound function in the game, saying "Nothing beats a ground pound!" Amelia reads this during the livestream and jokes, "That's what I did to your mom last night!" (shown below).

Spread

The clip quickly became a meme within the Watson Amelia fandom. On September 29th, 2020, YouTuber Bakurestu posted a meme based on the clip using Guts' Theme, gaining over 343,000 views in roughly a year and a half (shown below, left). On December 7th, YouTuber Mexican Honoka posted a Chibi Amelia animation based on the quote, gaining over 670,000 views in two years (shown below, right).

The clip also inspired numerous image macros and edits on the Hololive subreddits. On December 10th, 2020, Redditor SelfDepricator posted an image of Chibi Amelia ground pounding a city,^[1] gaining 100 points in two years (shown below, left). On October 4th, 2020, Redditor Stetscopes posted a Welcome To The Family Son edit in /r/watsonamelia,^[2] gaining over 190 points in roughly two years (shown below, right).
