About
Not My Problem is the name of a viral audio segment and song on TikTok recorded by the musical artist Laila. In the audio snippet, the phrase "not my problem, that's just not my problem" is repeated as part of the chorus, which was lifted from the original video and used by content creators for their own TikToks in lip dubs going into June 2024. Due to the contextual nature of the lyrics, the audio is often used as a part of showing no regret or remorse when something went wrong or was avoidable that the person is showing their indifference to.
Origin
On May 31st, 2024, TikTok content creators OnTheRadarRadio[1] uploaded a one-minute and twenty-two-second video snippet of Laila performing the song. This audio gained over 2.2 million likes and over 7 million views in two weeks while introducing the song to TikTok and creating the audio page with over 256,000 different TikToks using the same audio source (shown below).
Spread
The audio was quickly adopted by TikTokers who began using it in skits and jokes, with TikToker kemonilark[2] being one of the first to use it for humor instead of reacting to the song or including a dance. In his June 3rd, 2024, TikTok, the on-screen text adds the context that his ex is saying that she misses him, which prompts the response that they should've stayed though, while the song in the background provides an alternative answer in saying that she isn't his problem anymore (shown below).
The audio continued to have the same usage in the following weeks, primarily being the backing track to a situation or context in which the main person is showing disinterest or lack of care.
For example, on June 5th, 2024, TikToker birdy_73[3] uploaded a TikTok in which they show their messy and disorganized room while using the on-screen caption to brag that their room is too dirty for their mom, but they are perfectly fine in it. While gaining over 712,000 likes in one week, many commenters expressed their disgust that she lives like this (shown below).
