No Talk Me I'm Angy is a catchphrase used in a series of image macros depicting sad animals, often with their bodies turned away from the camera. The phrase was first popularized in 2019 on sites including Tumblr, Reddit and X, with one of the most notable examples showing a kitten under the phrase.
Origin
On April 21st, 2019, Tumblr[1] user sailorbrazil posted an image of a baby panda facing a corner, captioned, "no talk with me im angy," garnering over 280,000 notes in four years (shown below). This is the earliest known example of the meme. On April 26th, the meme was reposted to /r/aww[2] by a now-deleted Redditor, garnering over 63,000 upvotes in four years.
Spread
On October 13th, 2019, Redditor u/gangbangkang posted a photo of a small kitten facing away from the camera to /r/aww,[3] captioned, "Do not talk to me. Am angry," garnering over 9,100 upvotes in four years (shown below).
On October 22nd, the kitten meme was reposted by X[4] user @poorlycatdraw along with a redraw of the image, garnering over 177,000 likes in the same span of time (shown below, left). On November 13th, the official Discord X[5] page, @discord, posted a redraw of the meme featuring their mascot, garnering over 65,600 likes in four years (shown below, right).
On April 8th, 2020, Instagram[6] user astrhology posted a meme combining four versions of the meme and assigning them astrology signs, garnering over 128,000 likes in three years (shown below).On July 31st, 2020, Redditor u/sttresscoww posted an image of a raccoon to /r/aww[7] alongside the caption, garnering over 10,800 upvotes in three years. On March 7th, 2021, X[8] user @CAPYBARA_MAN posted the same four memes as astrhology with the caption "The four horsemen of quarantine," garnering over 28,000 likes in two years.
On December 16th, 2022, Instagram[9] user cattomemes4life posted a version of the meme featuring a hamster, garnering over 150,000 likes in a year (shown below, left). On September 1st, 2023, Instagram[10] user theexoticidiot posted a version of the meme that gained over 820,000 likes in a month. On October 8th, X[11] user @Bulbagarden posted an image recreating the meme with a Bulbasaur plush, garnering over 14,400 likes in a week (shown below, right).
