No Man's Sky Development Team Celebration Selfie is an image edit series featuring a viral selfie of the development team celebrating behind No Man's Sky holding a complete version of the game.

Origin

On July 7th, 2016, Sean Murray, the creator of No Man's Sky, tweeted [1] the photograph with the caption "It's happened. No Man's Sky just went gold. I'm so incredibly proud of this tiny team. 4 years of emotions." The tweet received more than 56,000 likes and 17,000 retweets in less than four years (shown below).

That day, Redditor [2] TheMexicanJuan shared the image on /r/gaming. The post received more than 65,000 points (78% upvoted) and 5,800 comments in les than four years.

The following day, on July 8th, 2016, Redditor[3] Kelinya posted an edit of the image, replacing the disc's text with a mockup for the unreleased video game Half-Life 3. The post received more than 1,000 points (91% upvoted) in less than four years (shown below, left).

On August 4th, Redditor[4] kfconme shared a variation in which the disc features a parody of the For Dummies book series that reads "Procedural Engineering for Dummies." The post received more than 400 points (94% upvoted) and 130 comments in less than four years (shown below, center). The thread inspired a photoshop battle based on the image.

That day, Murray tweeted,[5] in response to the thread, "Reddit, we salute you." The tweet received more than 7,300 likes and 2,000 retweets in less than four years (shown below, right).
