About

"No Digas Mamadas, Meriyein" refers to an image macro meme from the Spanish translation of Spider-Man 2 (2004), coming from a scene in which Peter Parker discovers Mary Jane is getting married. His line, "No digas mamadas, Meriyein," translates as "Don’t give me that shit, Mary Jane." The Spanish quote became popularized around December 2020, turning into a parody video meme later on November 2021.

Origin

In December 2020, an image macro meme appeared on Facebook, with the image and caption taken from the Spider-Man 2 (2004) movie scene in which Peter Parker is being rejected by Mary Jane after inviting her to eat. The news website La Razén De México[1] posted an article on December 15th, 2020 showing examples of the meme, which is centered on a Spanish overlay text conversation of Mary Jane rejecting the superhero in ironic ways. For example, in the dialogue below, Peter is trying to decide if he will buy a PS5 or an Xbox Series X console, to which Mary Jane responds "Peter, I'm pregnant."

A few days later, on December 22nd, 2020, Facebook[2] user @alanjc.ramirez uploaded a version of the meme in which Peter is talking to Mary Jane about the food being tasteless, to which she responds "Peter, it did taste," a joke that references a classic COVID-19 symptom. The superhero then says "No digas mamadas, Meriyein." The post (seen below), received 6,600 likes and 55,000 shares in three years.
