About

No Diddy is a slang expression synonymous with "No Homo" and "Pause" based on rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs' 2023-2024 lawsuits that also included allegations of homosexual relations with other artists and rappers, including Meek Mill and Usher. "No Diddy" as a replacement for "No homo" started in 2024, spreading on Twitter / X and Reddit, among other social media sites. Philadelphia rapper Quilly largely popularized the lingo. As it gained more usage, some internet users criticized the term for being homophobic and reductive as it ignored the more serious accusations levied against Diddy.

Origin

Users began using "No Diddy" on X in November 2023, when the first known tweets[1][2][3] surfaced on November 17th, 2023 (example shown below). The tweets were likely in response to a video posted by X[4] user @ghostfacedrizzy (since deleted) which, inferred by viral quotes [5] still accessible, was an old video of Diddy calling Fabulous "Daddy" viewable on YouTube.[16]

"No Diddy" was largely popularized by Philadelphia rapper Quilly when he appeared on DJ Akdemiks' podcast and used the expression numerous times (example shown below). The YouTube[6] video was posted on March 19th, 2024, receiving over 668,000 views in two months.

Spread

On March 20th, 2024, X[7] user @Vada_Fly tweeted, "Instead of Pause, now n!ggas saying 'No Diddy' 😂😂😂😂😂 im deaaaaaad," gaining over 19,000 likes in two months (shown below, left), directly referencing Quilly's usage as evident in @Vada_Fly follow-up reply.[8]

Also on March 20th, X[9] user @BNYX tweeted, "I put all my guys in positions. no diddy," receiving over 22,000 likes in two months (shown below, right).

On March 23rd, 2024, TikToker [10] @phillyheadlines posted a clip of streamer Kai Cenat shopping and reacting to a person saying "No Diddy," receiving over 192,500 plays and 7,200 likes in two months (shown below, left).

On March 26th, TikToker[11] @routegod813 posted a video of him and his friend talking and joking about the "No Diddy" trend, gaining over 379,200 plays and 19,200 likes in two months (shown below, right).

Criticism

Going into 2024, internet users started to criticize the usage of "No Diddy," such as X[12] user @throwawaypt2 on April 6th, 2024, who used the Freedom of Speech painting, writing, "'No diddy' is awful slang/lingo," gaining over 16,000 likes in a month (shown below, left).

Similarly, on April 28th, X[13] user @TheZodiacHeir quoted a video of rapper JP speaking about a homosexual experience of his on the No Jumper podcast in which the interviewers said, "No Diddy." @TheZodiacHeir criticized them, writing, "Y’all think queer people are predators and that’s why 'no homo' changed to 'no diddy.'" In one month, the quote gained roughly 20,000 likes (shown below, right).

Viral posts critical of "No Diddy" continued to surface on X[14] in May 2024.
