Nintendo Switch Broken in Half refers to a photoshopped image of a Nintendo Switch gaming console broken in half. The image has been used as a caption format for a variety of memes, notably as a part of the Just Found Out meme format and Gamer Rage memes.

Origin

On April 1st, 2017, a Redditor zaydeno9 posted a photosphopped image of a Nintendo Switch console broken in half to the /r/NintendoSwitch[1] subreddit as an April Fools' joke. The post (shown below) was downvoted and has since been deleted. On April 2nd, X[2] / Twitter user @SynthByte reposted the image, with their post gaining over 30 reposts and 130 likes in eight years.

Spread

On January 11th, 2018, an unknown Redditor posted the earliest found meme based on the image, a joke about breaking the console in a fit of rage over Dark Souls. The post (shown below) received over 1,900 upvotes in the /r/gaming[3] subreddit seven years.

On July 5th, 2019, X[4] user @wheel_able posted a Just Found Out meme about Catboys based on the image that gained over 1,400 reposts and 4,000 likes in five years.

The image saw increased popularity on social media in 2020 as multiple memes based on it went viral. For example, on April 23rd, 2020, X[5] user @Xarlable posted an Animal Crossing meme about the character Raymond that gained over 3,800 reposts and 27,000 likes in five years (shown below).

On January 16th, 2025, following the official announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 gaming console by Nintendo, X[6] user @SB2749 posted a sequel to the meme, a photosphopped image of a Switch 2 broken in half (shown below).
