Nintendo, Hire This Man is a sarcastic expression used to mock overly realistic/untooned mods and renders of Nintendo characters in Unreal Engine, and those that praise the modders as superior to the original game developers.

Origin

The earliest known usage of the phrase appeared on 4chan's /v/^[1] board on July 6th, 2018, mocking the quality of "HD" fanmade versions of Mario games (shown below)

Spread

As time went on, the phrase grew in popularity both in and out of 4chan, but really began to see popularity in the following year. On May 15th, 2019, Twitter user Ghiradin posted the phrase in response to a screencap of a tweet criticizing the visual style of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening remake (shown below, left). On June 13th, 2019, FunnyJunk^[2] user onlyfortheprnlinks posted a screencap of a tweet of Nessa from Pokemon Sword and Shield with lighter skin calling it "fixed" with the mocking title "NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN" (shown below, center). This image has a score of +397. On November 19th, 2019, Twitter user RyPixal used the phrase in reference to a Mario model made in Blender (shown below, right).

One of the most notable usages of this phrase comes from a parody of the song "Secret Agent Man" by YouTube user Chris Voiceman. Uploaded on May 7th, 2019, the video has over 500,000 views (shown below, top left). The video notably uses a frame from a tech demo gameplay video uploaded by YouTube user CryZENx on July 11th, 2015 (shown below, top right), which is usually used as a source for "hire this man" jokes. The song has also gone on to inspire a mashup with the Teen Titans theme song and "Teardrops" by Poppin'Party, uploaded to SiIvaGunner on November 13th, 2019 (shown below, bottom).
