About

Nike Elite Zipper Trend, also known as the Stealing Nike Elite Zippers Trend, is a TikTok trend in which people, mostly teens, steal the zippers of Nike Elite Backpacks and post videos wearing them on shoes or other objects to show how many zippers they have. The trend started in early September 2024, prompting an array of videos of people hiding their Nike Elite zippers to prevent them from being stolen at school.

Origin

The earliest mention of the Nike Elite zipper trend was posted on TikTok[1] on September 13th, 2024, by user @kyrieirvingishimm, who uploaded a picture of several Nike Elite Backpacks zippers that they stole, captioning it, "I'm from NYC. Do not leave your Nike Elite lacking around me." The post (seen below) amassed over 200,000 plays and 57,000 likes in a week.

Spread

Over the following week after the earliest post about the Nike Elite zipper trend was shared, several TikTok users started to post videos either stealing the Nike backpack zippers or hiding their zippers from others to prevent them from being stolen at school.

For instance, on September 18th, 2024, TikTok[2] user @moric2rur posted a video of his Nike Elite backpack without the zippers accompanied by an audio of a man crying (seen below), amassing more than 5 million plays and 779,000 likes in two days.

Also on September 18th, TikTok[3] user @layton.baumal posted a video of him adding superglue to his Nike Elite zippers (seen below), which garnered roughly 2 million plays and 75,000 likes in two days.
