Origin

The original scene comes from chapter 50[1] of the manga released on December 7, 1987 which was during the events of Part 2, Battle Tendency. In the scene the protagonist Joseph Joestar is fighting a vampire named Straizo. After beating Straizo Joseph tells his friend Smokey Brown ''Nigerundayo Smokey'' (Run Smokey).

The line was reused in chapter 109,[2] where Joseph says the same line while coming up with a way to defeat the villain Kars (Cars in Japanese version). As of February 13th, 2008, the panel had already been circulating manga discussion boards such as 4chan’s /a/ (Anime and Manga) board.

For the longest time, the scene has been popular within the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure community. The earliest known archived mentions of it existing on February 21, 2008. On January 11th, 2013, the scene gained even more popularity due to episode 11 of Battle Tendency anime adaptation, where the line was featured.
