The Nickname Trend or Name Trend is a TikTok trend in which users list the names or nicknames that various people and organizations call them, including the government, close friends and family, people from their past and more. The trend was popularized among English-language TikTok users in late April 2025, beginning earlier that month among Spanish-language TikTokers.

Origin

It is unclear who started the nickname trend on TikTok. One of the earliest known videos to participate in the trend was posted by Spanish TikToker[1] @777_16x on April 17th, 2025, garnering over 3.7 million views in two weeks.

In the video, she lists the names that various people call her, including "Alison" by her mom when she's angry, "My love" by her dad, "Ali" by her friends and "BB" by her best friend.

Spread

The trend garnered viral spread on TikTok over the course of April 2025. On April 19th, 2025, Spanish TikToker[2] @mauuperezz_ posted a video following the trend that garnered over 3.6 million views in roughly two weeks.


On April 27th, TikToker[3] @daniarribere posted a video following the trend that garnered over 3.6 million views in three days.


On April 29th, 2025, TikToker[4] @brooklynandbailey posted a video doing the trend, garnering over 1.9 million views in a day. That same day, a screenshot of the video was posted to the /r/McKnightFamSnark[5] subreddit to discuss whether or not the footage used was old, garnering over 60 upvotes in a day.
