Nick Sirianni Crying, also known as Crying Nick Sirianni or Philadelphia Eagles Coach Crying, refers to a video of Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni crying at Super Bowl LVII during the U.S. national anthem in February 2023. After the NFL coach's team lost the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs, the video was used in memes as a way to make fun of his team for losing, among other uses and captions related to emotional crying in general. Football fans used the reaction GIF and video on Twitter and elsewhere in 2023, resulting in various "Cry Eagles Cry" memes.

Origin

On February 12th, 2023, the official Twitter^[1] account of the NFL tweeted a video from the television broadcast of Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni crying during the national anthem, captioning it, "Emotional. #SBLVII," and earning roughly 13.9 million views and 37,900 likes in less than a day (shown below).

Within minutes of the video's Twitter upload, accounts with large followings started exploiting the video for memetic usage. Currently, the first known viral tweet to use the video was posted by the Barstool Sports Twitter^[2] account on February 12th, 2023, which captioned it, "After watching Marley & Me," and earned roughly 11,500 likes in less than a day (shown below).

Spread

As Super Bowl LVII aired on TV, more Twitter users started using the Nick Sirianni Crying video. For instance, on February 12th, 2023, the Twitter^[3] account of ComplexSports made a joke about Rihanna's Half Time Show, captioning the video, "Watching Rihanna perform Umbrella," and earning roughly 33,500 likes in less than a day (shown below).

After the game was over, Twitter users captioned the video in regards to the end of the NFL season, such as a tweet from Twitter^[4] user PaigeSpiranac who wrote, "Me now that football is over and I’ll have to watch baseball," earning roughly 4,100 likes in less than a day (shown below).
