Nick Nurse Reaction refers to a clip of Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse looking with mouth-agape shock after a member of his team was called for a three-second violation during their NBA playoff game against the Orlando Magic. The clip became a reaction image and was compared to other memes that express shock.
Origin
On April 21st, 2019, a member of the Toronto Raptors was called for a three-second violation against the Orlando Magic in their round1 playoff game. The camera cut to head coach Nick Nurse, who stood mouth agape for over ten seconds. The clip was posted to Twitter by user Faizal Khamisa (shown below).
Spread
After the clip aired, Twitter users began making fun of it in numerous ways. The @NBAonTNT[1] Twitter account tweeted the clip asking people "Caption this" (shown below).
In response some Twitter users made comparisons to the Forgesex scene in the latest Game of Thrones. Examples include tweets by Katie Nolan[2] that gained over 2,300 retweets and 12,000 likes (shown below, left). User @callmeish94[3] also made a joke referencing the scene (shown below, right).
Others referenced other memes which express shock and surprise. For example, user @KarinJade99 compared the expression to that of Surprised Pikachu (shown below, left) and the @YahooCASports account compared the expression of the Magikarp Guy (shown below, right). Memes were covered by The Daily Dot.[4]
