Nick Fury Looks at Pink Guy refers to a three-panel image based on a scene from 2014 Marvel superhero film Captain America: The Winter Soldier in which The Filthy Frank Show character Pink Guy has been edited in. Online, the image has been used as an object labeling format, often used in reference to out-of-place characters and outlandish behavior.

Origin

On April 4th, 2014, Marvel superhero film Captain America: The Winter Soldier premiered in the United States.[1] In one scene of the film, a police car with two officers inside pulls up to an SUV driven by character Nick Fury, portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson (scene shown below).



On April 5th, 2019, Facebook user Yung Eets posted a three-panel meme based on the scene showing The Filthy Frank Show character Pink Guy edited in to Marvel Shieldposting Facebook group (shown below).[2] The post gained over 2,800 likes and 1,300 shares in three months.



Spread

In the following days, the image was reposted by multiple users on Facebook and Reddit, including notable reposts by Autistic Yui[3] and in /r/dankmemes[4] and /r/thanosdidnothingwrong[5] subreddits.

On July 6th, 2019, Redditor avory-johnson posted the first known object labeling meme based on the image to /r/memes subreddit where it gained over 43,300 upvotes in twelve days (shown below).[6]



In the following days, memes based on the image gained a significant spread on Reddit, including notable posts submitted in /r/dankmemes,[7] /r/memes[8] and other communities.
