Nic Cage as Everyone is a single topic blog dedicated to photoshopping the American actor's face over everyone else that has ever been photographed. This fan-art meme is a product of NicCageasEveryone.blogspot.com, a website founded on the "belief that everything in life would be better with a little more Nic Cage, the most unique and versatile actor of his generation," according to the site description.

Origin

On November 1st, 2009, the Nic Cage as Everyone single topic blog was created, with the first post featuring a picture from the film Jurassic Park edited with Cage's face over actor Jeff Goldblum (shown below).^[1]

In an e-mail exchange with the pop culture site Asylum, the blogger behind the project explained how the idea came to be.

"It began when it was brought to my attention that I was 'obsessed' with Nic Cage, meaning that I brought him up in conversation nearly everyday in our carpool. I think he's a fascinating and unique actor, even when he's in big budget films that people don't necessarily deem 'good.' The great thing about Nic Cage is that, like in his films, no matter 'who he is,' he's still essentially Nic Cage."

During the first week of 2010, the fan blog received media coverage from major internet blogs and celebrity publications, including Urlesque,^[3] Huffington Post,^[4] Buzzfeed,^[5] Boing Boing^[6] and Washington Post's Celebritology Blog.^[7]

By February 2010, the blog hosted nearly 600 derivatives of Nic Cage photoshops. In an exchange with the Washington Post, the blogger behind the site reported receiving "upwards of 50 submissions a day."

The Actor

Nicolas Cage is an Academy Award winning actor who's appeared in over 60 films and played a versatile range of characters of from "bad boy" roles in the nineties (Con-Air, Face Off) to the more recent "adventure hero" characters in "Ghost Rider" and "National Treasure" franchise. Cage's internet memedom began with the infamous image macro featured in Your Argument is Invalid in 2008 and continued with YouTube remixes of memorable quotes (Not the Bees / How'd It Get Burned?) from his role in 2007 horror film The Wicker Man. FakeApp

On January 25th, 2018 Redditor ^[8] derpfakes posted a video in the /r/deepfakes subreddit, a community where in which people use a deep-learning application called FakeApp to replace the faces of people in videos, of Andy Samberg's replaced with Nicolas Cage's. The video (shown below) received more than 600 upvotes (97% upvoted) and 20 comments.

Several days later, derpfakes pasted Cage's face onto Amy Adam's from the film Man of Steel. The post (shown below, left) received more than 2,000 points (98% upvoted) and 90 comments. Additionally, on January 26th, derpfakes put Cage's head on Harrison Ford's in the film Raiders of the Lost Ark (shown below, right).

With the emergence of the Cage "deepfakes" several media outlets began reporting on the videos and the subreddit, including AV Club, Vice, The Outline and more.
