NewJeans' 'OMG' CapCut Edits refers to a trend using TikTok's official video editing app, CapCut, alongside the song "OMG" by the K-Pop group NewJeans. The trend started in January 2023 and features stylized edits of popular characters like Breaking Bad's Walter White, actor Ryan Renolds and many others.

Origin

On January 2nd, 2023, the South Korean K-Pop group NewJeans^[1] released the song "OMG" on all streaming platforms. The track accumulated 60 million plays on Spotfy^[2] in one month.

After the song grew popular on social media, CapCut^[3] user @Dels uploaded a transition video template inspired by it, with some lyrics passing along the screen as pictures are shown in a retro aesthetic. The template became available on January 8th, 2023, and within a month, it had accumulated 1.1 million other videos using the feature.

Throughout the month of January 2023, several users began to post videos of their favorite celebrities or characters using the "OMG" CapCut template. TikTok^[4] user @taegiluv1 shared an edited video (left) of Jimmy Fallon on January 15th, 2023, garnering 1.7 million views in two weeks. The American actor Ryan Reynolds also participated in the TikTok^[5] "OMG" trend on January 24th, 2023. His video (right) received 3.4 million views and 757,000 likes in three days.

'OMG' CapCut Trend With Trains

Jumping on the "OMG" CapCut trend, TikTok^[6] user @monomatrix shared his love for German trains with a post on January 16th, 2023. His video showing one of the trains received 67,500 views and 11,300 likes in three weeks (seen below).

On their TikTok^[7] account @sfbart, the train service in the San Francisco Bay Area also decided to join in on the "OMG" CapCut trend on January 25th, 2023 by posting one of the trains with the retro aesthetic and fake audio of the song "OMG" sung by Drake. The post reached 1 million views and 238,000 likes in one day.
