Never Going to X Concert Ever Again and Ain't No Way X Was Singing This refer to a series of memes in which footage from concerts by various musicians is humorously sped-up and paired with various cringy or goofy songs, such as Chrissy Wake Up Remix "Hot Dog" by There Might Be Giants in a Goody Ahh fashion. Spawned by Lil Tecca and BTS memes, the format gained popularity on TikTok in August 2022, regaining virality in October 2022.
Origin
On August 8th, 2022, TikTok[1] user @duoxkouga posted a video of a group of Stranger Things fans at Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo dancing to the "Chrissy Wake Up Remix". On August 18th, 2022, TikTok[2] user @jasforbangran paired the song with footage from a concert by the K-pop band BTS, writing, "bts what is this…" The video gained over 1.7 million views and 306,000 likes in two months (shown below).
Spread
In the following days, the meme format achieved viral popularity on TikTok as users combined the song with footage from various concerts, writing captions such as, "ain't no way X was singing this" and "ain't no way X did this." For example, on August 19th, TikTok[3] user @braekingbadfan911 posted a meme featuring rapper Lil Tecca that gained over 7.7 mullion likes and 1.2 million likes in two months (shown below, left). On August 22nd, 2022, TikTok[4] user @deviousrapnews posted a DaBaby meme that gained over 228,000 likes in that period (shown below, right).
The format regained popularity on TikTok in October 0222 as users combined sped-up footage of rappers performing on stage with the song "Hot Dog" by There Might Be Giants. On October 13th, 2022, TikTok[5] user shitposbiscuits posted the first such meme, captioning it, "never going to a dababy concert ever again." The post (shown below, left) gained over 6.5 million views and 1.3 million likes in two weeks. On October 17th, TikTok[6] user @kaylayomadeit posted a meme that gained over 669,200 likes and 93,000 likes in eight days (shown below, right).
