Need Tomboy is a CAPTCHA meme where the CAPTCHA reads "Need Tomboy." It is paired with a picture of a man looking stressed while a semi-transparent tomboy character from pop culture stands behind him.
Origin
While it is unclear where the meme started, one of the earliest known variations was posted June 4th, 2019, by Twitter user FightingAlex_,[2] who posted the image featuring Devil May Cry characters (shown below).
Precursor
The image is a variation of another CAPTCHA meme featuring the man, but the CAPTCHA reads, "Don't Type" (shown below).
Spread
In the second half of 2019 and through the beginning of 2020, the exploitable saw more variations, usually using characters from anime. For example, On September 11th, 2019, Twitter user @HBJohnXuandou[1] posted the image featuring River City Girls character Yoko, gaining over 200 retweets and 920 likes (shown below, left). On February 3rd, 2020, Redditor abdullah-bandicoot[3] posted a variation to /r/persona, gaining over 300 points (shown below, right).
