Natsuki's News refers to an exploitable image of the character Natsuki from the dating-sim video game Doki Doki Literature Club appearing to read the news like a newscaster. The character was used in dozens of memes in /r/DDLC, the Doki Doki Literature Club subreddit, in April of 2018.

Origin

On April 5th, 2018, Twitter user @savisavichan posted several images, one of which included what would become the template for Natsuki's News (shown below).^[3]

On April 8th, 2018, Redditor Gohomeudrunk uploaded the template to /r/DDLC,^[1] gaining over 900 upvotes (shown below).

Spread

Edits of the template began appearing in the subreddit shortly after the template appeared. One of the most popular was posted by SilurFur, referencing a scene from Family Guy, gaining over 4,000 upvotes (shown below, left). Another popular post featured a GIF of Natsuki sleeping, gaining over 5,000 upvotes (shown below, right).

On April 9th, Gohomeudrunk created a similar template with the character Monika.^[2] This led to edits featuring that character in a more villainous role than Natsuki. Some popular edits include a post by user zeppelans that gained over 3,000 upvotes (shown below, left). Another post referencing events in the game gained over 140 upvotes (shown below, right).
