#MyAesthetic is a hashtag referring to a series of TikTok videos in which TikTokers reveal their own aesthetic or a certain aesthetic with a series of pictures and videos. The video series became popular in February 2020 and is typically paired with the 2008 song "Crimewave" by Crystal Castles.[1]
Origin
On February 13th, 2020, TikToker @kermishy uploaded a video in which they describe "kidcore" in a series of images paired with the sound clip "crimewave by crystal castles – kermishy" (shown below). The video garnered over 351,000 likes in a month.
Spread
On February 16th, 2020, TikToker @moonlitdxze described "acidwave" in a series of images using another sound and received over 83,700 likes in three weeks (shown below, left). On February 22nd, TikToker @ohbworm shared a video describing Dispicable Me character Vector's aesthetic and accumulated over 387,700 likes in two weeks. (shown below, center). On February 25th, TikToker @benjikrol attempted to reveal his own aesthetic in a series of images (shown below, right). The video garnered over 498,200 likes in two weeks.
