My Sister And I Are Polar Opposites is an image macro of two sisters with opposite styles which was originally posted to Twitter in July 2020 and, soon after, became an object-labeling meme on Reddit. The image is a selfie of one sister with rainbow hair smiling while the other sister, in all black, scowls.

Origin

On July 18th, 2019, Twitter user @aalexandriabish^[1] tweeted, "My sister and I are polar opposites. Her home vs mine" (shown below). The tweet that included image comparisons of their style and their home decor gained over 647,800 likes and 117,700 retweets in three days.

Spread

On July 18th, 2020, Twitter users began posting comparisons to @aalexandriabish's original tweet. Twitter user @FlamingMercury5^[2] posted an image of a Hot Topic next to a Sanrio and garnered over 18,100 likes and 640 retweets in three days (shown below, left). That same day, Twitter user @ebonielise^[3] tweeted a screenshot of Sara and Kara from American Dragon and received over 1,300 likes in three days (shown below, right).

On July 20th, Redditor MJenius-MJ posted the image of the two sisters with one labeled "Class Clown at School" ad the other "Class Clown at home" to r/dankmemes^[4] (shown below). The post accumulated over 800 points (96% upvoted) in a day. Distractify^[5] published an article on the image.
