My Job Is Just Beach, also written My Job… Is Just Beach and My Job… Is Just… Beach, refers to a quote from Ken (played by Ryan Gosling) in the 2023 Barbie movie in which he's describing what his job is to the other dolls. After the clip went viral on Twitter in early July 2023 and after the movie was released in theaters on July 21st, 2023, Ken's quote became a phrasal template in which meme creators replaced the word "beach" with one word that described their job. The quote also inspired the My Ken's Job TikTok trend.

Origin

On July 3rd, 2023, the Twitter^[1] account @DiscussingFilm tweeted a clip from the then-upcoming Barbie movie in which Ken (played by Ryan Gosling) was talking to the other dolls about what is occupation was. He was quoted saying, "My job… is just beach." Over the course of three weeks, the video gained roughly 66.8 million views and 260,200 likes (shown below).

The first-known variant usage of the "My Job Is Just Beach" meme was shared by Twitter^[2] user @DocStrangelove2 on July 4th, 2023, who quote retweeted @DiscussingFilm by adding a photo of beach bodybuilders (from Malcolm in the Middle) calling Ken "literally me," gaining roughly 24,200 likes in three weeks (shown below).

Spread

On July 12th, 2023, Twitter^[3] user @deepfates tweeted a variation of Ken's quote, instead writing, "You know hacker isn't even my job. And it is not developer, which is a common misconception. My job…. is just computer," gaining over 560 likes in 16 days (shown below, left). Soon after, other Twitter^[4] users replicated the format. However, the format didn't trend en masse until after the film's release on July 21st. For instance, a catalyst in the spread was a tweet sent by Twitter^[5] user @bailey_grandis on July 26th, 2023, that read, "my job is just….deck," gaining roughly 1,400 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Thereafter, many Twitter users captioned the image from @bailey_grandis' tweet.^[5] For instance, on July 27th, 2023, Twitter^[6] user @HelloKrystalWu tweeted "My job is just… Meeting," earning roughly 20,500 likes in one day (shown below).

My Ken's Job is a TikTok trend in which women show their boyfriend or husband's job or hobby and call it "My Ken's Job" in reference to the "My Job Is Just Beach" quote from Ken in the Barbie movie. TikTokers who followed the trend used the "I'm Just Ken" song from the movie as the TikTok sound. The "My Ken's Job" TikTok trend surfaced en masse after the film's release on July 21st, 2023.
