My Balls Was Hot is a memorable quote said by UFC fighter Derrick Lewis after he was asked why he took off his pants at the end of a fight in 2018. As the viral video of the moment spread online, the catchphrase became a prevalent comment interaction response on social media, as well as also being used in image macros, memes and videos.

Origin

On October 6th, 2018, heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis talked with UFC presenter Joe Rogan inside of the octagon after his last-second knockout victory at the UFC 229: Khabib vs. McGregor fight. Rogan asked why the fighter took off his pants at the end of the match, to which he responded, "My balls was hot." The interview (shown below) was uploaded on YouTube[1] a day later on October 7th, garnering over 5 million views and 63,000 likes in five years.


Spread

Around the same period that the interview was uploaded on YouTube, it was quickly transformed into a memetic catchphrase on social media. For example, in October 2018 Imgflip user @JasonFurney[2] uploaded a still image (shown below, left) of Derrick Lewis paired with the overlay text "My Balls Was Hot," which received over 20,000 views in five years. On October 12th, Tenor[3] user @ThisGuyFawkes posted a GIF version of Lewis' interview as a reaction meme (shown below, right).

MANSCAPED x Derrick Lewis Ad

On August 11th, 2023, heavyweight fighter Derrick Lewis partnered with male grooming tools and hygiene products brand MANSCAPED to advertise a new product. A promotional video was uploaded on YouTube[4] that day (shown below), which amassed over 991,000 views and 10,000 likes in a week.
