About
Mustard Analog Horror is a parody analog horror meme trend where a scarily edited image of rapper Kendrick Lamar staring forward and smiling is edited into clips of characters or people saying "mustard," a refernce to music producer Mustard, who produced Lamar's song "Not Like Us." The trend was popularized on TikTok in June 2025 by user @the.amalgamator and garnered viral spread that month.
Origin
On June 5th, 2025, TikToker[1] @the.amalgamator posted an edit of a video about mustard seeds in which creepy edits of Kendrick Lamar's face are added throughout, garnering over 4,300 views in three weeks. This is the earliest known example of the meme.
On June 11th, the same TikToker[2] @the.amalgamator posted a video that begins with a clip from the film The Founder, in which Nick Offerman's character Dick McDonald says, "Mustard." The clip continues to play as it zooms out, then cuts to black as eyes begin appearing on the screen. An edited image of Kendrick Lamar smiling then appears on screen, disappears, then returns to show Lamar gradually smiling. The beginning of "Not Like Us" then starts to play and finally, the smiling image appears on screen again. The video gained over 78,000 views in two weeks.
The image of Kendrick Lamar is taken from an ad campaign Lamar participated in for Chanel. The original ad only shows half of Lamar's face and the full image of his face is an edit, in which the face has been mirrored and pieced together.
Spread
The trend went viral throughout June 2025. On June 15th, 2025, TikToker[3] @viet_monkasoft posted a video beginning with a clip of TikToker @iricksnacks making a burger with mustard, garnering over 1.1 million views in 10 days.
On June 22nd, TikToker[4] @oregano702 posted another example of the meme, beginning with another clip of burgers being made with mustard, garnering over 174,000 views in three days.
On June 23rd, TikToker[5] @oileduplordshaxx posted a version of the meme in which a video plays and each time the narrator says a letter in the word "mustard," it briefly pauses to spell out the word at the bottom of the screen. The video then cuts to narration about how the "Mango states of brainrot" have fallen, likely a reference to the Dark Mango Psychology meme. The video ends with a cut to Lamar's face and distorted colors. The video gained over 3.3 million views in two days.
On June 25th, TikToker[6] @privden2 posted a video about the Mustard analog horror trend, garnering over 50,000 views in under 10 hours.
