Musical Parodies of Speech are videos in which a musician performs their own musical arrangement that syncs up rhythmically with speech featured in a separate video clip.

Origin

Although the first instance of this practice is unknown, one of the earliest YouTube videos of a musical speech parody was uploaded by Werner Erkelens on October 9th, 2016. The video is an arrangement of Donald Trump's Trump Tapes. The video has gained over 11,900 views in three years (shown below).

Spread

On March 14th, 2017, drummer and Youtuber David Dockery uploaded "Pepe Silvia w/drums" (shown below, left). The video became popular and has accumulated over 1.9 million views in two years. David Dockery went on to upload numerous musical speech parodies. On July 19th, 2018, YouTuber WOODWINDROOM uploaded a sync jazz piece inspired by Donald Trump's speech about Russia (shown below, right). The video gained over 14,000 views in a year.

On May 6th, Charles Cornell began uploaded a TikTok video in which he performs an arrangement of a Trump speech (shown below, left). The video gained over 4,800 likes and 300 shares in four days. On May 9th, he uploaed another TikTok video piano arrangement of a Cardi B video (shown below, right). The video garnered over 158,300 likes and 17,900 shares in a day.
