MSN Earthworm / VineMeat refers to a character created by special effects artist Kevin Yagher for a 90s MSN commercial which was popularized by VineSauce 20 years later.
Origin
In 1999, MSN released a commercial featuring a worm who gets split into two worms. The commercial was uploaded to YouTube by The Hall of Advertising on February 9th, 2012 and had received 27,500 views after seven years, before being deleted and reuploaded on June 21, 2019 rescaled into HD (shown below).
Spread
On February, 23rd, 2018, Kevin Yagher[3] uploaded a video of the earthworm character to Instagram (shown below). The clip garnered 126,000 views in a year.
On April 23rd, 2018, @MyFavsTrash[1] posted a screen shot of the earthworm character to Twitter with the caption "My meat watching me open incognito for the 4th time today" which has been retweeted 1,400 times and liked by over 5,000 (shown below, left). On May 3rd, 2018, VineSauce took note of the Twitter image and used it in his game streaming video "Bloodborne (part 8)" which has accumulated 27,900 views in a year (shown below, right).
That same day, VineSauce submitted and twitch emote called VineMeat to FrankerFaceZ.[2] On October 16th, 2018, Vinny o VineSauce uploaded a documentary of "Vinny and His Meat" featuring a description of the begins of the character (shown below). The video gained 286,700 views and 16,000 likes in four months.
