Mr. Incredible Becoming Ascended, also known as Mr. Incredible Becoming Canny, refers to a series of exploitable memes based on edited images of The Incredibles character Mr. Incredible in which he becomes increasingly happier and luminous. The format is a reversed version of the Mr. Incredible Becoming Uncanny format that went viral in December 2021, which is itself based on the Traumatized Mr. Incredible format.

Predecessors

Mr. Incredible Becoming Ascended is a development of the Mr. Incredible Becoming Uncanny meme format that is based on the Traumatized Mr. Incredible format. The original image of "reverse toonified" Mr. Incredible (shown below, left) was posted by Twitter^[1] user @CitizenPlain on October 15th, 2020. On November 10th, 2020, Redditor^[2] PARILIZEDpArrOT243 posted a The Teacher's Copy vs. What They Give You meme based on the image, editing the reverse toonified image to look like it was created by improperly using a photocopier (shown below, right).

The two-panel format initially gained viral spread in late June 2021 after Redditor^[3] a_cuppa_java posted a version of the meme on June 18th that gained over 39,000 upvotes in three months. The format returned to prominence again in September 2021 as "People Who Don't Know vs. People Who Know" after a September 5th post by Redditor^[4] Dapper_Dildo, who posted a four-panel Table-Kun meme based on the format.

Mr. Incredible Becoming Uncanny memes in which additional panels are added to the format gained virality in December 2021, primarily in the form of videos (compilation video^[5] shown below).

On November 27th, 2021, YouTube user MexicoEmpireFOREVER uploaded the first reversed version of the Mr. Incredible Becoming Uncanny format, the video is 1 extended version of Mr. Incredible Becoming Uncanny and in the first version appears Mr. Incredible Happy wearing glasses, The Song of the phase is called Sora Iro No Kaze (空色の風) by Sora Takenouchi (武之内空), a fictional character from the Digimon Adventure Saga, Sora Is interpreted by Yuuko Mizutani (水谷優子) (10/04/1964-05/17/2016). This song was made for the album "Girls Festival". the video gained over 212,000 views and 10,000 likes(shown below.)^[17]

On December 31st, 2021, Redditor insaneliving_ uploaded a new and most popular reversed version of the Mr. Incredible Becoming Uncanny format to /r/MemeTemplatesOfficial.^[6] In the video, 10 increasingly positive (in later stages, grinning and hyped-up) versions of Mr. Incredible follow each other as the music progresses from calm melody to heavy metal. The post, titled "Mr Incredible Becomes Ascended," gained over 8,000 upvotes in four days. On the same day, TikToker^[7] @nobleretat reposted the video, with the post gaining over 3.8 million views and 521,000 likes in 1 month (shown below).

Spread

In the following days, the template gained prominence in memes on Reddit, Facebook and other online platforms. For example, on January 1st, 2022, Redditor auxiliary-character uploaded one of the earliest memes based on the format to the /r/GunMemes^[8] subreddit. The video received more than 1,500 upvotes in three days. On the same day, Facebook^[9] user Rezaul Hoque Mohammad uploaded a meme about the upcoming film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to "Marvel: Multiverse of Shitposting" group, where it accumulated over 8,400 reactions and 4,400 shares in three days (shown below).

In the following days, the subformat achieved major spread on YouTube, TikTok and other social media.

on January 1st, 2022, TikToker^[11] @zamvlas uploaded the most viewed video on this format. The video received more than 16.3 million views and 2.8 million likes in 2 weeks (shown below.)

On January 5th, 2022, YouTuber user Clay uploaded the most viewed YouTube video on this format. The video received more than 22M views and 1.8M likes in 4 weeks (shown below.)^[10]
