About

movie_goofs is a parody Novelty Twitter Account which initially appears to be an account devoted to pointing out inconsistencies and continuity errors in movies, but the "errors" they point out are often very obvious and central plot points. The account grew very popular in the weeks following its conception, leading to media coverage.

Origin

The Twitter account @movie_goofs launched in July of 2018.[1] Its first tweet, pertaining to Star Wars, was posted July 25th and gained 1,000 retweets and 3,000 likes (shown below).

Spread

The account quickly grew in popular, gaining over 34,900 followers in a little over two weeks. Many of the account's tweets are taken at face value (examples shown below).

In interviews with Daily Dot[2] and Mashable,[3] the creator behind the account, named "Sean," explained that he would never break character on the account, and responds to people not understanding the joke with more absurd "errors" (examples shown below).

In addition to being covered by Daily Dot and Mashable, the account has also been covered by AV Club[4] and The Next Web.[5]
