Origin

On April 10th, 2017, an anonymous 4chan[1] /b/ user posted the earliest known image of character Rich Uncle Pennybags, commonly known as Monopoly Man, stretching his hand for a handshake over letters N and O of the word "Monopoly". The image was taken from the cover of an unidentified edition of the board game and was posted as a reaction image to a vore comic.

On April 11th, 2017, Twitter user @Ramskerr[2] created an Expand Dong edit of the image (shown below, left). The post gained over 70 retweets in two years, while the repost of the edit by Redditor[3] zero-polite gained 4,200 upvotes in the same period. Before April 12th, 2017, an unknown user paired the "No" macro with the caption "Coworker: wanna do something after work?" (shown below, right). On April 13th, 2017, an Instagram post containing the image was scraped by Me.me[4][5].

Spread

Following the initial posts, both the original image and it's "Boi" version were circulated as image macros on Instagram, Reddit and other platforms. Before April 13th, 2017, a now-deleted Instagram[6][7] user Dabmoms posted a version of the meme which gained over 18,800 likes.

On May 15th, an unknown Reddit[8] user reposted the meme paired with the "coworker" caption to /r/meirl subreddit, where it gained over 30,300 upvotes in six months.

In the following years, the image macro saw moderate use across Reddit and other platforms.
