The Monkey Flying Into Tornado AI GIF, also known as the Gorilla Flying Into Tornado AI GIF, refers to a GIF of an AI-generated video showing a primate holding onto a door and flying into a tornado in the background as seen through the lens of a Ring doorbell camera. The original video was created using the text-to-video AI video generator Sora in 2025. The GIF version of it gained use as a reaction on Twitter / X in late 2025.

Origin

On October 14th, 2025, Instagram[1] user @willpowerkai shared an AI video of a gorilla holding onto a door as a powerful tornado in the background rips its grip. The gorilla is seen flying into the tornado. Over two months, the video received over 300 likes.

The video was seemingly posted to Sora first by a currently unknown user. Another repost of the video, shared by TikToker[2] @user27504770 on October 15th, showed a Sora waterwark and another TikTok watermark for a deleted account, @kyrolynx2004.




On November 7th, 2025, X[3] user @myethos27070 tweeted a GIF of the AI video in a reply to another tweet that included an AI tornado video. Over one month, the GIF gained over 1,900 likes.

On November 7th, 2025, X[4] user @grimble22988 shared a video iteration of the meme that added a soundbite from the video game S.T.A.L.K.E.R., gaining over 40,000 likes in a month.


On December 3rd, X[5] user @ShitpostGate reposted the abovementioned video, gaining over 21,000 likes in five days.

On December 7th, 2025, X[6] user @heiroflambs tweeted the GIF, captioning it, "My BF is asleep next to me and I'm silently crying laughing at this gif," gaining over 204,000 likes in a day.



Also on December 7th, X[7] user @DiGi__Official quote-tweeted a different post using the GIF, writing, "Everyone laughing at the gif, I'm afraid were losing the fight against AI…." Over one day, the post received over 50,000 likes.
