MLG Meme Revival or MLG Era TikTok Revival is a trend on TikTok in which old clips reminiscing about the Major League Gaming (MLG) era of memes started to be reposted with greater frequency, primarily in early October 2023. Approaching nine years of age during their resurgence, the clips and callbacks to that era are part of the macro trend of "nostalgia-posting" for Millennials.

Origin

Though some accounts and users continued posting MLG-style game clips following their heyday during the mid-2010s, on July 25th, 2023, TikToker @RomanianNationalist^[1] posted a TikTok in which he directly called for a return to the MLG era, using Gigachad to depict that era as "based" when compared to the current "post-irony" era of meme culture, earning over 360,000 likes in three months (shown below).

Months later on October 2nd, 2023, TikToker @Guy.86^[2] uploaded a classic 360 No Scope MLG-style TikTok, complete with references to Wombo Combo, the Illuminati Eye and Nuketown. The caption for the TikTok directly called out that the MLG era was making a comeback, with many more MLG clips being posted the following day (shown below).

On October 3rd, TikToker @perroslayer^[3] uploaded a TikTok featuring My Hope Will Never Die as the backing track while showing the opening intro to Super Smash Brothers Ultimate with MLG memes destroying all other Zoomer Humor like Skibidi Toilet and Smurf Cat (shown below).

Over the following days in early October 2023, numerous MLG-style memes continued to be posted by various users, with many referring to it as a "comeback." As of October 5th, 2023, the hashtag "#mlgmemes" had accumulated over 3.8 million views.^[4]
