About

Miranda Priestly Looking At Your Shoes refers to an exploitable image macro of Meryl Streep's character in the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada looking at your shoes and judging you. It's a three-paneled image where the middle part of the template can be swapped out for examples of questionable fashion choices like Uggs or Crocs. The meme was first used on 9GAG in 2011 but saw a resurgence in popularity in September 2021 on Twitter and Instagram.

Origin

On November 13th, 2011, the template was first used on 9GAG (shown below) to make fun of women wearing Uggs in fall. Although the post on 9GAG has since been deleted, it can be viewed and accessed through an auto-repost uploaded to the website JoyReactor (shown below).[1]

Spread

The template received remixes most notably on Pinterest [2] throughout the early 2010s. The second iteration of the meme that received widespread reposts was of Miranda Priestly looking at a pair of turquoise Crocs (shown below).

The template received more attention on September 8th, 2021, when Twitter user @iamkennieg tweeted a new version of the meme (seen below) using an image of three people wearing Crocs. The tweet[3] received roughly 241,000 likes and 39,000 retweets over the course of two days.
