Minecraft Movie Sheep refers to the pink sheep seen in the teaser trailer for the Minecraft Movie (titled A Minecraft Movie) that was shared online in early September 2024. The sheep, which "baas" at the characters and viewers, became a central focus of criticism concerning the film's realistic animation style upon its debut. Many compared the sheep to Ugly Sonic, while others attempted to make memes with the screencap of the sheep bleating by adding top captions to it. However, the memes were largely ridiculed for being cringe and for normies because they were perceived as low effort with easily reachable punchlines. In turn, ironic memes mocking the earnest Minecraft Movie Sheep memes spread on Twitter / X and elsewhere.

Origin

On September 4th, 2024, the first teaser trailer for A Minecraft Movie was posted to YouTube^[1] by Warner Bros. Pictures, gaining over 13.9 million plays and 440,000 likes in a day. At the video's 0:20-minute mark (shown below), a pink sheep is seen bleating at the film's characters.

Also on September 4th, the teaser trailer was shared on X^[2] by the official @Minecraft account, gaining over 44.8 million views and 128,000 likes in a day.

Eight minutes after the trailer's X upload, X^[3] user @gportalint shared the first-known meme with the sheep, captioning the screencap of it bleating with, "When there is no coffee in the morning," receiving over 1,700 likes in a day (shown below).

Spread

In the following hours, many users on X mocked the abovementioned post by X user @gportalint. For instance, on September 4th, 2024, X^[4] user @BigMoney34YT quoted @gportalint's reply, writing, "heartwarming: alien from planet kepler-452b trys to make a relatable meme," gaining over 97,000 likes in a day (shown below).

Later on September 4th, X^[5] user @tommyinnit compared the Minecraft Movie Sheep to Ugly Sonic from the original infamous trailer for the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog film. He captioned the images, "first sonic. now Minecraft Sheep. realistic animation will ruin us all," receiving over 100,000 likes in a day (shown below).

Posts criticizing the sheep's animation also surfaced on Reddit. For instance, on September 4th, 2024, Redditor^[6] Elder_Hoid shared a meme to /r/memes that roughly followed the Some of You May Die format from Shrek, gaining over 450 upvotes in a day (shown below).
