The trend involves people photographing themselves lying down or slumped over as if they died in the video game Minecraft while surrounded by the items or "loot" they dropped upon death.

One of the earliest notable Minecraft Loot Drop edits was created by TikToker[1] @realmvain, who posted a precursor Fornite loot drop edit on December 5th, 2024, gathering over 2.6 million plays and 600,000 likes in three months.



On December 17th, the TikToker[2] posted a Minecraft version of the meme, showing a man sprawled across some stairs with various items from the game surrounding him. The post gathered over 400,000 plays and 110,000 likes in two months.

On January 18th, 2025, TikToker[3] @ximanofx posted a tutorial for how to make a Minecraft loot drop edit, gathering over 1.6 million plays and 270,000 likes in three weeks.

In early February 2025, several TikTokers posted tutorials and Capcut templates to replicate the Minecraft Loot Drop trend, as seen in a February 8th, 2025 TikTok[4] by @drip_z.txr that gathered over 15 million plays and 3 million likes in a week.

On February 9th, 2025, TikToker[5] @karl_editzz0 posted a version of the trend with a corresponding CapCut[6] template, gathering over 15 million plays and 1.8 million likes in five days.

On February 10th, TikToker[7] @stussy_.com posted a version of the meme with a corresponding CapCut[8] template, gathering over 18 million plays and 2.5 million likes.
