Minecraft Bees refers to neutral mobs in video game Minecraft, first released in August 2019 as a part of 19w34a test version of the 1.15 update of the game. Following the addition of bees and related blocks and items to the game, multiple memes about the update were posted online.

Origin

On August 22nd, 2019, game developer Mojang released 19w34a snapshot (test version) of Minecraft which featured the addition of bee mobs and bee hive and bee nest blocks (images shown below).^[1]

As of August 23rd, 2019, the exact date when bees and bee-related blocks and items will be added into the main version of the game was unknown.

Spread

On the same day, multiple memes referencing the update were posted online on Reddit, Instagram and other online platforms. In multiple examples, users poked fun at Mojang for adding bees to the game instead of the much-requested update for caves.^[2][3]
