About
Mimemamomu, also written Mi Me Ma Mo Mu or Mimemamimimamou, is a "Goofy Ahh" TikTok sound originally sourced from a video posted by TikToker and vocal coach Cheryl Porter (@cherylporterdiva) in October 2022 showing a young boy named Mateo Lopez singing (or vocalizing) in a car with her. The sound was later given a slowed + reverb remix, which inspired many memes using a CapCut video template called "Naik Kapal Malam" that added any image into a green boat floating on a lake at night.
Origin
On October 16th, 2022, TikToker[1] and professional vocal coach cherylporterdiva posted a video of herself in the car with the world's youngest mariachi: a Texas boy named Mateo Lopez.[8] In the short video, Lopez is vocalizing, singing many "mi's," "ma's" and "mo's" in what's called a "MiMeMaMoMu" warmup. Cherylporterdiva is exclaiming, "Keep it up!" in the video. Over the course of one month, the video received roughly 98.9 million plays and 6.9 million likes (shown below).
Spread
At first, mobile video game-centric TikTok[2][3] pages used the "Mimemamomu" sound for their gameplay videos. On October 19th, 2022, TikToker[4] nem_tudja_senki._ became one of the first to joke about the sound and video, posting a duet meant to portray the female driver's POV. Over the course of one month, the video received roughly 2.5 million plays and 30,900 likes (shown below, left). On October 22nd, 2022, TikToker[5] tomsings_music posted a Talking Tom and Friends video with Mimemamomu, earning roughly 23.4 million plays and 627,600 likes in 24 days (shown below, right).
On November 4th, 2022, TikToker[6] ilikeyoucutgbozo posted a slowed + reverb version of the original "Mimemamomu" video. The video received roughly 2 million plays and 254,200 likes in 11 days (shown below, left). Thereafter, many TikTokers used the new slowed + reverb remix. For instance, on November 11th, 2022, TikToker[7] mio11kingmm used the "Naik Kapal Malam" CapCut template to show a baby with throwup dribble floating in a green boat at night, gaining roughly 3 million plays and 571,900 likes in four days (shown below, right).
