About
Milton's Dancing Rat Trend, also known as IShowSpeed's Dancing Rat Trend or Rat Dance Meme, refers to a 3D animation of a rat with rain boots dancing to the song "Chess Type Beat" by Joyful. The meme was created by TikToker @ratomilton in early January 2025 and was later turned into a dance trend after streamer and YouTuber IShowSpeed posted a video recreating the rat's dance moves.
Origin
On January 1st, 2025, TikTok user @ratomilton[1] posted a 3D animation of a rat dancing to "Chess Type Beat" by Joyful[2] in random background environments. The video amassed over 55 million plays and 7.3 million likes in a month.
Spread
The video already had notable internet recognition in the following weeks, but gained substantial awareness after streamer and YouTuber IShowSpeed posted[3] a video on January 18th, 2025, doing the dancing rat move set in a viral video (seen below), which received over 174 million plays and 19 million likes in two weeks (seen below).
In the following days, the video, accompanied by the song Chess by Joyful, went viral on TikTok. For example, a January 27th, 2025, post by TikToker @chilllit_seoul,[4] a South Korean dance group, received over 13 million plays and 3 million likes in three days.
On the same day, TikTok[5] user @thereallightskinmonte added the dancing rat 3D animation as a filter while doing the dance trend, which amassed roughly 28 million plays and 5 million likes in three days.
