Origin

On March 22nd, 2024, YouTuber Sawtone released a music video for "M@GICAL☆CURE! LOVE ♥ SHOT!" featuring Hatsune Miku. In the video, Miku counts down and then sings "Miku Miku Beam!" as the animation style changes. The clip^[1] gained over 3.4 million views in two months (shown below).

Spread

Over the following several months, multiple YouTubers and TikTokers began to reanimate the "Miku Miku Beam" section of "M@GICAL☆CURE! LOVE ♥ SHOT!" The trend originally started on TikTok. On April 12th, 2024, TikToker @achlys_i0^[2] posted sketches to "animate" the scene, gaining over 419,000 likes in nearly two months (embed unavailable).

On April 14th, TikToker @luveygold^[3] posted a reanimation that gained over 534,000 likes in roughly six weeks (shown below, left). On April 24th, TikToker @ryousakai^[4] posted a reanimation that gained over 730,000 likes in five weeks, the most a reanimation of the clip has gained as of June 3rd, 2024 (shown below, right).

The trend also became prevalent on YouTube in mid-2024. For example, on April 30th, YouTuber 람다람 RAMDARAM^[5] posted a reanimation of the clip, gaining over 732,000 views in one month (shown below, left). On May 9th, YouTuber ho_salt^[6] reanimated it in a clip that gained over 10 million views in three weeks on YouTube Shorts (shown below, right).
