About

Might I Suggest You Don't Fuck With My Sis is a catchphrase that's used to caption image macros with powerful female energy akin to Girlboss memes. The phrase comes from a Beyoncé lyric on the song "COZY" which was released on Beyoncé's 2022 album RENAISSANCE. Usage of the phrase in memes became commonplace on so-called "Stan" Twitter / X in 2022 and 2023.

Origin

On July 29th, 2022, Beyoncé released her album RENAISSANCE.[1] The second track on the album was called "COZY" and featured the lyric "Might I suggest you don't fuck with my sis."[1]

As early as July 27th, 2022, users on X[2][3] started to tweet the lyric. However, none were viral posts. The first viral post with lyric was posted by X[4] user @beyonceparkwood on September 24th, 2022, which captioned a photo of Beyoncé looking at her sister Solange Knowles after her infamous "Elevator fight" with Jay-Z in 2017,[5] gaining roughly 3,400 likes in a year (shown below).

Spread

Going into 2023, usage of the phrase became more humorous, evident in a tweet shared by X[6] user @kissinboothgirl on January 30th, 2023, which captioned a photo of Taylor Swift and a young Joey King, gaining roughly 1,000 likes in nine months (shown below, left). On September 11th, 2023, X[7] user @jimmyoutsold captioned a photo of Victoria Justice in Victorious in a post that received roughly 9,100 likes in one month (shown below, right).

As early as June 2023, X[8] user @bklynb4by was using the phrase in memetic content (shown below, left). In late 2023, @bklynb4by picked up the trend again and gained increased virality, evident in a quote [9] posted on October 19th, 2023, that received roughly 9,800 likes in one week (shown below, right).
