About

The Middle Finger Gun Guy, also known as Too All The Corrupt Government πŸ–•, refers to a TikTok user named Dave Sampaio (@davesampaio) who went viral in late 2021 for a video of him performing a dance with his hands and middle fingers to the sound of a gun loading and cocking remixed into the song "Remember the Name" by Fort Minor ("Are you ready? Let's go"). The video acted as a message "Too all the corrupt government πŸ–•." His TikTok was cropped and given various captions in many video memes continuing into 2022.

Origin

On March 17th, 2020, TikToker[1] lamvoicians94 posted a "Gun Sync" video of the song "Remember the Name" by Fort Minor using their skills in the video game PUBG. Over the course of two years, the video received roughly 3372,400 plays and 5,700 likes (shown below, left). This was originally done by YouTuber[14] Sniper XT on May 14th, 2016.

TikTokers started using lamvoicians94's sound[2] in their videos. On October 3rd, 2020, verified TikToker[3] cindy518c uploaded a video that created a hand gesture dance to lamvoicians94's sound, earning roughly 3.2 million plays and 407,400 likes in two years (shown below, right). Many TikTokers[4] Dueted cindy518c, performing the dance synchronised with her.

On September 8th, 2021, TIkToker[5] davesampaio posted a video that used lamvoicians94's sound,[2] wherein, he performed his own variation of cindy518c's hand gesture dance.[3] Davesampaio primarily used his middle fingers in the dance to convey what was written in text overlay, "Too all the corrupt government πŸ–•." Over the course of ten months, the video received roughly 776,700 plays and 91,100 likes (shown below).

Spread

Following its upload, davesampaio's video attracted earnest recreations from TikTokers who agreed with his sentiment. On September 10th, 2021, TikToker[8] beccahenderson03 did just this and earned over 1,000 plays (shown below, left). On September 15th, 2021, TikToker[9] brunsondeshields10 did the same and earned similar engagement (shown below, right).

The trend received satirical attention in early October 2021 via duets and stitches with davesampaio. On October 3rd, 2021, TikToker[6] high5ifyourestillalive posted a duet that joked about the "corrupt government" official being a DMV employee dodging the middle fingers, similar to the Dodging Itsdestiel's Kisses trend. The duet received roughly 83,900 plays and 16,000 likes in nine months (shown below, left). Also on October 3rd, TikToker[7] jamestime_timeforjames posted a stitch that mocked davesampaio's video, earning roughly 12,000 plays and 2,400 likes in nine months (shown below, right).

On April 29th, 2022, TikToker[10] _tandury reposted davesampaio's original video,[5] earning roughly 82,200 plays and 9,700 likes in three months. TikToker _tandury then posted[11] a cropped version six days later. Another cropped version was uploaded on June 13th, 2022 by TikToker[12] croppedv1ds4u (shown below, left).

Meme creators on the platform used the cropped versions in their own TikToks with various captions. For instance, on June 13th, 2022, TikToker[13] valkyriesd1vacup2 posted a video that joked about giving the middle finger to their mom when she didn't let them house a stray cat. It received roughly 1 million plays and 301,300 likes in one month (shown below, right).
