#MensRightsMovies is a Twitter hashtag associated with parodies of famous movie titles that are intended to poke fun at the Mens Rights Movement, an online social phenomenon which can be seen as a backlash against feminism.

Background

On October 22nd, 2013, Australian college student Aaminah Khan[1] tweeted a sarcastic jab at the Brony fandom using the hashtag #mensrightsmovies.


Notable Developments

Khan's friends quickly chimed in on the jokey hashtag and within hours of Khan's tweet, #mensrightsmovies[3] began spreading across the rest of Twitter. In the following 24 hours, the hashtag garnered more than 6,300 mentions, according to Topsy.[6]

That same day, The Daily Dot[2] reported on the trending hashtag in an article titled "#MensRightsMovies are coming soon to a friendzone near you," followed by similar round-up compilations on The Huffington Post[5], Slate[7], Jezebel[8] and The Frisky.[9]
