Menat is a character from the second downloadable content (DLC) season of the fifth installment of the Street Fighter series, Street Fighter V. A fortune teller character, Menat carries a crystal ball with her when she attacks. Online, she grew notable for her flamboyant walk-cycle animation.

Origin

On August 27th, 2017, Capcom uploaded a trailer for the character to YouTube (shown below). She debuted as part of the second Street Fighter V DLC package on the 29th.

Spread

Instantly, fans were taken with her walk animation, a flamboyant, twisting strut, moreso than her abilities as a fighter. A tweet by @HiFight showing just her walk animation gained over 1,500 retweets in less than three days (shown below).

Many other fans noticed Menat's walk cycle as well, leading Kotaku^[1] to write an article about fan's reactions to Menat's walk. Meanwhile, the character quickly grew popular among players in the series. Street Fighter V players quickly began adapting to Menat's fighting style, pulling off impressive combos with her and her crystal ball. Eurogamer^[2] wrote about the quick adaptation of the fighting community to Menat on August 31st. The article included two videos showing off impressive combos done with the character by Street Fighter gamers Desk and Sakonoko (shown below).
