Megan's "Interesting" refers to a screenshot from the opening credits of the 2021 iCarly reboot recreating the original Megan's Interesting format, based on a screenshot of the same actress, Miranda Cosgrove, sitting at a computer saying "interesting" from Drake and Josh. The theme song for the iCarly reboot was teased on the streaming service Paramount+ on June 9th, 2021, with the screenshot going viral over the next week.

Origin

On June 9th, 2021, the iCarly Twitter[1] page posted the theme song and opening credits sequence for the iCarly reboot series (shown below), set to release on June 17th. The post gained over 12,000 likes and 2,900 retweets in five days.

That day, a number of users commented on the tweet with a screenshot from the opening showing Carly, played by Miranda Cosgrove, smiling at a computer monitor with a drink in one hand, recreating the "Megan's 'Interesting'" format taken from a 2006 episode of the Nickelodeon series Drake and Josh, notably also featuring Cosgrove as Drake's younger sister Megan. Twitter[2] user @lifeswhaat commented a side-by-side comparison of the images that day, garnering over 1,700 likes and 240 retweets (side-by-side shown below). Twitter[3] user @filmupdates posted the same side-by-side in a tweet that day, garnering over 48,000 likes and 5,300 retweets in a comparable span of time.

Spread

The remade meme was reported on by PopBuzz,[4] Seventeen,[5] Just Jared[6] and more over the course of the week. People soon began using the image in image macros and memes, many referencing aging by using the original meme next to the remake along with memes referencing doing two similar things at different ages.

For example, on June 9th, the day the trailer was released, Redditor u/TrashyDrawinges posted an image macro with the text, "when you realize they actually remade this shot," to /r/memes[9] showing each meme stacked, garnering over 69,900 upvotes in five days (shown below, left). On June 10th, Twitter[10] user @wildestthot posted an image showing the original meme and the new one side-by-side referencing aging, garnering over 75,000 likes and 14,000 retweets in four days (shown below, right).

On June 10th, Twitter[7] user @billkinminaj posted, "me watching gossip girl" along with an image of the original meme labeled "2007" and the remake labeled "2021," garnering over 3,300 likes and 680 retweets in four days (shown below).

On June 11th, Redditor u/SIRoA posted an image macro to /r/memes[8] featuring each image stacked about not understanding algebra as a child and as an adult, garnering over 30,900 upvotes in three days (shown below, left). On the same day, Redditor u/Macroc0sM posted a meme to /r/wholesomememes[11] using the stacked image, garnering over 73,000 upvotes in three days (shown below, right).

Megan's "Interesting"

Megan's Interesting refers to a memorable scene from the episode "Mindy Loves Josh" of American sitcom Drake & Josh in which the character Megan Parker looks at a computer screen while holding a can of Mocha-Cola in her hand and says "Interesting." Online, a still image paired with the quote gained popularity as a reaction, often used in reference to the discovery of intriguing or condemning information (examples shown below).
