Mega Victreebel is the Mega-Evolution version of the Pokémon Victreebel, premiering in the 2025 video game Pokémon Legends: Z-A. After leaking in March 2025, Mega Victreebel was first teased in mid-August and revealed on August 21st, 2025, to largely positive reactions from fans. Over the following weeks, Mega Victreebel inspired numerous memes and works of fan art, including artwork that imagines Mega Victreebel as a human woman (known as Gijinka or Moe Anthropomorphism). The reveal also inspired numerous fan redesigns of the Pokémon in late 2025.

Origin

On March 28th, 2025, Redditor u/Icy-ConcentrationC made a post to the /r/PokeLeaks[8] subreddit sharing information from a post on 4chan's /vp/ board purportedly leaking the design descriptions of the Mega-Evolutions in the game Pokemon Legends: Z-A, garnering over 3,400 upvotes in six months. Mega Victreebel's description reads:

Mega Victreebel's brown vine wraps around its mouth opening, tying it shut, so that it looks like a giant bulging pouch tied off at a thin opening. The leaf arms are much smaller near the top of the bulging pouch. The leaf at the top stands up and is much bigger and spikier.

On the post's second slide, there is a mockup of what the design might look like, created by anons in the original 4chan thread.



On August 19th, the Pokémon X[1] page posted an ominous screenshot of a character grabbing a chainlink fence at night, garnering over 66,000 likes in two weeks. The post teased an announcement on August 21st.



Then, on August 21st, 2025, the Pokémon YouTube[2] Channel posted a video titled "The Case of the Sweet Scent Incident" that shows the player character encountering Mega Victreebel in a dark building, garnering over 950,000 views in roughly two weeks.



On the same day, the Pokémon YouTube[3] channel released another video further showcasing Mega Victreebel, garnering over 119,000 views in the same span of time.

The reveal of Mega Victreebel in late August 2025 went viral on sites like Reddit and X / Twitter, inspiring memes and fan art online.

On August 21st, 2025, Redditor u/SlowLie3946 posted the official rendering of Mega Victreebel to the /r/PokemonZA[4] subreddit, garnering over 3,000 upvotes in two weeks.

On August 22nd, Redditor u/MouldyArt posted a piece of fan art to the /r/fakemon[5] subreddit, showing how they would have designed the Pokemon, garnering over 1,100 upvotes in two weeks.



That same day, X[6] user @RhymeWithRay posted a piece of fan art depicting Mega Victreebel as a human woman, writing, "MEGA VICTREEBEL IS SO FUNNY AND GOOFY anyway… how'd I do?" garnering over 12,000 likes in two weeks.



On August 31st, 2025, X[7] user @Doodlelot posted a similar piece of fan art depicting Mega Victreebel as a human woman, writing, "Ok, mega victreebel is growing on me 😚," garnering over 4,500 likes in three days.
