About

Me Sowing / Me Reaping is a prominent Twitter phrasal template meme and axiom based on a @screaminbutcalm tweet that reads, "Me sowing: Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!! / Me reaping: Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck." Parodies of the tweet will often describe scenarios where a person enjoys doing one thing but regrets the obvious consequences of their actions, typically including the snowclone alongside reaction images for both "sowing" and "reaping."

Origin

On March 12th, 2019, Twitter user @screaminbutcalm[1] tweeted, "Me sowing: Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!! / Me reaping: Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck." The post references the Biblical proverb "You reap what you sow," meaning future consequences are inevitably shaped by present actions.[2] The tweet gained over 39,000 retweets and 138,000 likes in over three years (shown below).

Spread

Over the following years, the tweet became a prominent reference on Twitter and was often cited when people faced the consequences of their actions. For example, on August 24th, 2021, Twitter user @wariotifo[3] referenced it while discussing the columns of BuzzFeed reporter Marie Le Conte, gaining over 25 retweets and 250 likes in one year (shown below, left). On November 23rd, user @PoliticsJoeUK[4] used it to reference a Tory MP apologizing to Jeremy Corbyn, receiving nearly 200 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, left).

Others used the format for more humorous scenarios, which tended to reach a wider spread on Twitter. For example, on October 23rd, 2021, Twitter user @egg_dog[5] used it in a tweet that gained over 9,900 retweets and 95,000 likes in one year (shown below, left). On October 12th, user @vv1lder[6] posted it using the Oh-Il Nam Standing / Sitting meme format, gaining over 130 retweets and 1,800 likes in one year (shown below, right).
